Hedgehog Class
Our youngest children in school, the Nursery and Reception class is taught within the school’s Foundation Stage. The Early Years curriculum is based on the recommended ‘Early Years Foundation Stage Framework’.
The framework is delivered through topics and learning is purposeful and embedded through continuous provision and based around play.
In Hedgehog class we use stories and books to inform our planning. Each week the children are introduced to a new topic or theme through our chosen book. The children’s learning then happens through a mixture of planned sessions and activities as well as continuous provision where the children lead their own learning. Our planning is flexible, and we will also use the children’s own interests to support them in making progress throughout the school year.
We continually assess and plan for each child on a moment-by-moment basis, responding to their interests and extending their learning. This ensures that we know exactly where they are on their learning journey.
There will be opportunities to speak to the class teacher throughout the year to discuss your child's progress.
In addition to this, we also use Seesaw to update parents on their everyday learning as well as sharing those amazing WOW moments!
The children in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) are taught together in small class sizes and our older children are taught together as lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4). The National Curriculum objectives are covered over two years through cross curricular topics. Enrichment days and educational visits are also planned to enhance and consolidate learning in some topics.
Seesaw
Seesaw , is a secure online journal where pupils can document and reflect on what they are learning. Your child will be able to add the things we work on (including photos, videos, worksheets, drawings and voice recordings) to their Seesaw journal and they can share them privately with their class teachers.
