Vision & Values
Our theologically rooted Christian Vision
Matthew 5:16 (KJV):
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Full biblical message (briefly explained):
This verse is part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, where he teaches about how his followers should live.
- “Let your light shine” – Christians are called to live in a way that reflects God’s goodness, truth, and love.
- “Before others” – This isn’t private faith only; it should be visible through actions and character.
- “They may see your good works” – Actions such as kindness, justice, compassion, and integrity demonstrate faith in practice.
- “Glorify your Father in heaven” – The ultimate purpose is not personal praise, but pointing others toward God.
In essence:
The verse teaches that believers should live visibly good, compassionate lives so that others are drawn to recognise and honour God.
We believe that every child and adult can FLOURISH and shine. We recognise that we are all special in God’s eyes and have unique gifts and talents, which we nurture so that each of us has the opportunity to become the very best person that God intended us to be.
As an inclusive school, we warmly welcome families of all faiths or none. We celebrate the cultural and religious diversity of our school community in a caring and spiritually supportive environment.
We strive for our children to recognise the value of their own light, including what ‘lights them up’ and makes them feel whole: we want them to be proud of their personal achievements; to value and respect themselves; and to know how loved they are both by God and by others.
Our vision encourages children to grow spiritually and develop their sense of moral purpose. We want to encourage our children to aspire to great things, letting our lights to shine and to making a difference to the world around us.
Our values are really important to us, helping us to ‘let our light shine’.

Our Community
Nestled in the foothills of the Peak District in this quaint little village, Rushton CE First School is at the very heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands local community.
We pride ourselves on being the beating heart of the village and strive to involve ourselves in both daily life and slightly more quirky aspects of this rural life.
Depending on the time of year, children and parents alike may find themselves going on glorious spring walks, performing fabulous Christmas services, flying colourful bunting at the village garden party, or even amongst the local farmers doing a spot of pig racing!
Our dedicated school staff work closely with the PTA, the local community and St Lawrence church to make sure everyone feels included and appreciated.
